Popular Memphis-born designer Prep Curry joined hands with the banana republic for the latest floral collection.
We all have read the quote, “A dream does not become a reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.”
Prep Curry had chased all his dreams with much success, but when he asked them for a sewing machine as his 25th birthday present, it had made all laugh. Being a man, it’s too hard to stay dedicated to the passion of sewing, but his beloved mother believed in him when others people laugh it off. She had exchanged the promise with him that she would pay for his sewing classes at Hancock Fabrics, if he kept up with his work. Curry doesn’t let this promise go in veins, and years later now, he has successfully collaborated with one of the most renowned American clothing brands “Banana Republic.”
The whole collection is the perfect paean of classic and bold colors and distinctive patterns, similar to the splatter of spring and blossom after a yearlong winter.
The Memphis-born designer holds a beautiful vision behind this partnership- a vision to give people presents of flowers after a year of pains and losses. He wants people to feel great about themselves in flower attires, which encourages him to partner with the banana republic. Now anyone can rock-and-roll by styling herself in Curry’s elegant flowers.
Curry has taken a lot of fashion inspiration from her mother, inspiration to come up with something unique and elegant every time, and create a buzz with his distinctive style.
With only $6 in his hands, he relocated to Los Angeles in 2016 with faith in his heart that he would be one of the fashion diva one day.
“Other people I watched motivated me. Now that I have the opportunity to motivate the world, I’m ready to do it. Because it was hard for me, and I know it could be hard for other people.” — Prep Curry
Few years back, Curry’s cousin called him to move to the greatest fashion center of the world, Los Angeles. Right after moving to the Golden State, Curry flew to Miami to be part of Angela Simmons’ design competition that is something we can call one step forward in the fashion world.
His journey is not something that goes without saying; he had moved from hotel to hotel, and sometimes he had to spend his days and nights in the car, eating almost nothing.
During his entire exhausting journey, his mother was on his back and encouraged him to keep striving and working- until he doesn’t get the fruit of his bearings.
The day after competition, he met the founder and CEO of the banana republic, “Mark Breitbard,” and here, the whole life of Curry had changed. He shared his ideas and views and how his creative work can give new flair to the company. Later on, the two began a correspondence and ended up being a partner with each other.
When Curry was asked how he has been celebrating his victory, he says that it’s not a time to celebrate but to get back to work. He also acknowledged that the only way to succeed is to work hard until you don’t get what you want.
His story is a classic example of determination and perseverance.
